In the previous year, Maharashtra recorded a total of 2,19,047 financial fraud cases, amounting to Rs 38,872.14 crore, according to data released by the state’s Home Department. Of these, Mumbai reported the highest number of incidents, with 51,873 cases involving a combined sum of Rs 12,404.12 crore.
Next in line was Pune city, which saw 22,059 financial fraud cases, leading to losses of Rs 5,122.66 crore. In total, Pune district reported 42,802 cases, with Pimpri-Chinchwad accounting for 16,115 cases and a loss of Rs 3,291.25 crore, while Pune Rural recorded 4,628 cases with losses amounting to Rs 434.35 crore.
Nagpur city recorded 11,875 financial fraud cases, while Nagpur Rural saw 1,620 cases, resulting in total losses of Rs 1,491.07 crore.In Nashik district, there were 9,169 cases, with 6,381 in Nashik city and 2,788 in Nashik Rural, amounting to Rs 1,047.32 crore in losses.Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district reported 6,090 fraud cases, with a total loss of Rs 543.61 crore, while Amravati district had 2,778 cases, leading to Rs 223.059 crore in losses.
In terms of city-level breakdown, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city saw 4,837 cases, and Amravati city had 1,819 cases.Solapur district recorded 3,457 cases, resulting in losses of Rs 394.54 crore.Other districts such as Buldhana, Chandrapur, and Latur reported 1,531, 1,792, and 1,624 cases, with corresponding losses of Rs 239.19 crore, Rs 175.39 crore, and Rs 240.45 crore.
Thane district followed closely with 35,388 fraud cases reported. Thane city recorded 20,892 cases, Navi Mumbai 13,260 and Thane Rural 1,236 cases. The total financial loss in the district was Rs 8,583.61 crore, according to the data, reported PTI. Mira Bhayander and Vasai Virar areas recorded 11,754 cases with financial losses reaching to Rs 1,431.18 crore.
