At least 116 individuals, including women and children, tragically lost their lives in a stampede during a religious gathering known as a 'satsang' in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. The state government has initiated an investigation into the incident and has sent three ministers to oversee relief efforts on site.
Inspector General Shalabh Mathur of Aligarh confirmed that the death toll has risen to 116. He stated, "An FIR will be registered against the organizers of the satsang because the attendance exceeded the permitted limit. A thorough investigation has been ordered at a senior level."
The satsang was arranged by the Manav Mangal Milan Sadbhavna Samagam Committee for self-proclaimed spiritual leader Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as Sakar Vishwa Hari or Bhole Baba.
