WATCH: Massive Protests In Kolkata and Chennai After Waqf Bill Receives Approval.

Thousands of people took to the streets in Kolkata, Chennai, & Ahmedabad on Friday following weekly prayers by the Muslim community to protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill passed by Parliament earlier this week.

A clip from Kolkata depicted a vast crowd waving the national flag and holding signs stating 'we reject Waqf amendment' and 'Reject Waqf Bill' as they gathered at public meeting locations. Several of the protests, as reported by news agency ANI, were held by the Joint Forum for Waqf Protection.  

In Ahmedabad, the atmosphere appeared more intense; a video shared by ANI showed police trying to forcefully remove elderly protesters who were sitting in the road. Authorities detained the leader of the state unit of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeem (AIMIM) along with a total of 40 members.  

Chennai witnessed some same scenes, where actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had called for a statewide protest. TVK supporters assembled in Chennai & other major cities such as Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli, chanting slogans like 'reject the Waqf Bill' & 'do not take away Muslims' rights.' Ashish Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Lucknow) said, "We have asked everyone to make an opinion only after reading the whole bill and we are monitoring social media constantly..."
