Mumbai is one of the most populated cities in India and now this fast paced city has received its first elevated nature trail, a 485-metre-long wooden walkway, been designed to let visitors experience the city’s natural beauty and have a serene escape from the hustle of the city.
This trail is located at Malabar Hill, nestled between the Kamla Nehru Park and Pherozeshah Mehta Garden. This newly built trail was a long-forgotten 2.5-acre forest at Siri Road, which was kept out of bounds for the public for over 40 years. This immersive experience surrounded by chirping birds, flora, and fauna will cost Rs. 25 for locals and Rs. 100 for foreigners. The sidewalk will be open from 5 am to 9 pm, with slots available for online booking. The walk starts from Siri Road on Malabar Hill and ends at the same spot, almost like a loop.
The Nisarga Unnat Marg is inspired from the Tree Top Walk in Singapore, but is the first of its kind in Mumbai. The elevated walkway gives guests a unique chance to interact with nature from a different angle while passing through beautiful trees without endangering the ecosystem.
It also consists of a Sea Viewing Deck that provides guests with an unrestrained, expansive view of the Arabian Sea and Girgaon Chowpatty. More than a hundred plant varieties, including Gulmohar, Banyan, and Jamun trees, as well as a variety of fauna, including kingfishers, parakeets, pythons, lizards, and small mammals, would be visible to visitors.
The trail is designed by architect Rahul Kadri, founder of IMK Architects and chairman of the Nepean Sea Road Citizens Forum. After numerous delays caused by the BMC, the project was finished over four years at a cost of over 26 crore Rupees.
This project is a great initiative to make people aware about the flora and fauna of the city, while also providing a beautiful and calming scenic getaway for the people.
