K-pop Group Stray Kids Face Racism on the Red Carpet at Met Gala 2024

Fans of the k-pop group Stray Kids were happy to see them at the Met Gala for the first time, but were angry at the paparazzi for the racist comments passed at the group

Stray Kids members  Bang Chan, Felix, Lee Know, I.N, Changbin, Hyunjin, Seungmin and Han attended the 2024 Met Gala  for the first time. The members wore custom Tommy Hilfiger suits in the designer’s trademark red, white and blue palette. Fans across the world gushed over the photos and videos of the group.

But there is negative side to this as well. Fans were quick to notice in some videos, that the paparazzi passed rude and insulting comments towards the group. The reporters were heard saying, “I've never seen so many so many unemotional faces before", "They're robots." And when the Stray Kids members took off their coats to reveal their outfits, a paparazzi commented, “Oh, now we have to do it again?” Someone also said, "Now, let’s do it with feelings. Everybody jump". The reporters were also heard shouting random Korean words at the group.

Bangchan, leader of the group, posted a message on Bubble Chat, platform for  K-pop idols to connect with fans, the message said, “had a great time because everyone treated us so respectfully”. This sarcastic message was the leader response to the reporters who disrespected them at the event. 

Fans of the group are very angry at the paparazzi for treating the group with such disrespect, some fans even took to social media to express their disappointment.

Stray Kids were formed by JYP Entertainment in 2017 through the reality show of the same name. They became a worldwide sensation after the release of the song, “God’s menu”. They have even won the Best K-Pop Award at the MTV Music Video Awards.
