Warner Bros. recently revealed a new poster for one of the anticipated films of the year, Wicked, based on the iconic Broadway Musical of the same name. The poster was based on the original Broadway poster and contained Ariana whispering in Erivo's ears. But, the film made a tweak, raising the hat of Elphaba, played by Erivo, so her face is visible.

However, dedicated fans of the Broadway musical were quick to notice and photoshopped the poster to make it Broadway-accurate. Renditions of the poster with the hat covering her eyes and bold red lipstick instead of the green one flooded the internet.

However, it didn’t sit well with her, Erivo took her disagreement to her Instagram and uploaded a story saying, “This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen equal to that awful AI of us fighting, equal to people posing the the question ‘is your p—- green?” Along with this, she also shared the photoshopped poster, writing, “None of this is funny. None of it is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us.”

She went on to speak about how this film and its poster is an illustration of the Broadway Musical. “I am a real-life human being who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer …because, without words, we communicate with our eyes. Our poster is a homage, not an imitation to edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me. And that is just deeply hurtful,” she wrote.
