Nitin Desai was an amazing art director, production designer, actor, and film-television producer who left everyone in the industry shocked with his sudden demise on August 2nd. He was found dead at his studio in Khalapur, known for his work on classic films like Lagaan and Devdas. Further opened a studio ND’s Art World, and the movie Jodha Akbar was shot there.
The recent statement made by Khalapur police that his death of cause was by suicide and the latest reports are Desai’s wife Neha Desai has filed the FIR against Edelweiss Chairman Rashesh Shah and four others. The report was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 (common intention) at Khalapur police station.

A First Information Report was filed upon Edelweiss Group Of Chairman Rashesh Shah, company official Smit Shah, another person named Keur Mehta, R K Bansal of Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company and Jitender Kothari who has been appointed by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) as an interim resolution professional, the police official said and the accused will be asked to join the probe.
Nitin Desai had been defaulted on a Rs 252 crore loan repayment to creditors and the Mumbai bench of the NCLT had initiated insolvency proceedings against it.

And Neha Desai said in the complaint, her husband was repeatedly facing mental harassment on the loans his ND’s Art World Pvt Ltd had taken because of which he committed suicide.
Desai’s company borrowed two loans from ECL Finance with almost Rs 185 crore in the years 2016 and 2018, and he started facing troubles in repayments in January 2020. ECL Finance is a non-banking finance arm of the Edelweiss Group.
