Comprising luminaries like Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, V Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan, Shakti brought home the honour, marking a historic moment for Indian music on the global stage.

The band, formed in 1973 after the dissolution of the Mahavishnu Orchestra's first incarnation, presented a unique fusion that resonated with the Grammy jury. Upon receiving the award, Shankar Mahadevan expressed gratitude, dedicating the victory to his wife and acknowledging the immense support from the audience and their homeland.
