Recently, in an interview, Karan Johar talked about SS Rajamouli's work and shared that he has made successful films even when his stories lack logic.
Filmmaker Karan Johar, in an interview, talked about SS Rajamouli's style of filmmaking. Karan shared that mostly Rajamouli's films lack 'logic', but are made with a lot of effort. He said the recipe for a successful film is to believe in your story even if it is unreasonable.KJo was speaking on Komal Nahata's YouTube show, 'Game Changers', when he said, "Conviction is very important. If you look at anything, especially if you analyze the journey of the best filmmakers, you’ll see that the biggest hits are built on conviction."
He highlighted Rajamouli's films and said, "Logic doesn’t matter in a film. Take any film by Rajamouli, sir, for example. Where do you see logic? You only see a conviction. And when conviction comes to the forefront, even the audience believes in it."The popular director further mentioned the success of 'Animal', 'R', and 'Gadar 2'. He said all these films didn't have any logic and were only made with pure conviction. Johar also took the example of the iconic 'hand pump scene' from 'Gadar' (2001).
He said, "Look at the biggest films — whether it’s 'Animal', 'R', or 'Gadar' — these films are made with conviction. If you can defeat a thousand people with a single hand pump, that’s conviction, right? Anil Sharma believes that Sunny Deol can do this. That is pure conviction."The director continued to explain how any film can be turned into a blockbuster if the makers have that kind of faith in what they are showing to the audience. He shared that one should not be 'second guessing' the audience or start questioning oneself. KJo concluded by saying that it's all about where your focus lies while making a film.
