In a startling incident at Jaipur International Airport on Thursday, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a passenger attempting to smuggle gold worth ₹70 lakh by concealing it in private parts. The smuggling attempt was foiled as vigilant Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials intercepted the passenger during a routine security check, uncovering the concealed gold. The incident highlights the lengths to which smugglers are willing to go to evade customs and underscores the challenges faced by authorities in curbing gold smuggling activities.

The passenger had arrived on a flight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Acting on a tip-off, agency officials immediately began searching for the individual as de-boarding commenced. He was intercepted for a customs inspection, but the initial check did not reveal anything suspicious.The passenger's nervous demeanor during questioning immediately raised red flags.  

Acting on their heightened suspicions, officials conducted an X-ray scan, uncovering gold hidden in his private parts in the form of a paste. Subsequently, the man revealed the involvement of Fageria, who had traveled on the same flight. As per the agency, Fageria compensated gold carriers between ₹10,000 and ₹20,000 for each trip.

The incident highlights the significance of proactive enforcement and heightened vigilance in addressing the growing challenge of gold smuggling. It commends the DRI’s swift response in curbing illegal activities and emphasizes the need for continued efforts to protect the nation’s economic interests.
