Like Barbenheimer, Glicked Is Here And Its Opening Night Has A Winner!

Last year, we witnessed the iconic pop culture moment of Barbenheimer, which was a massive hit, and this year, we got another pair of films clashing, especially in the UK. But for this one, we have a clear-cut winner on the basis of its box office collection on the opening night.

On 22 November, Glicked, a term that is a combination of Gladiator and Wicked, took over the internet and for all the good reasons. Both films have a great pop culture influence to it. On one hand, we have Gladiator 2, which is the sequel to the original that was released 24 years ago and on the other hand, we have Wicked, which is an adaptation of the famous 2003 Broadway Musical of the same name. 

Both films have a cast filmed with well-known names like Ariana Grande and Pedro Pascal, epic sets and a complex yet intriguing storyline. So the lines outside theatres were eminent. The box office collection of the opening night for both films is out, and Wicked raised to the occasion with 160 Million Dollars at the box office. Gladiator 2 gathered around 60 million Dollars, but they ar slowly catching up.

Wicked’s opening night collection is the biggest in history for a Broadway adaptation and the fourth biggest in all time for big-screen musicals. The film was supposed to be released on 27 November, but the dates were pushed back to 22 November, leading to a Clash with Gladiator 2 in England. This decision was also made because next week, the highly anticipated sequel to Disney’s Moana will be hitting the big screens on 28 November.

Overall, the winner of this year's clash of Glicked is Wicked, dicrected by John M Chu, starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey.
