One of the most beloved and iconic musicals of all time, Wicked, is set to dazzle audiences this holiday season as it makes its highly anticipated debut on the big screen.
Directed by the renowned Jon M. Chu (of Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights), Wicked explores the untold backstory of the witches of Oz. The film stars Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award-winner and Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, The Color Purple on Broadway) as Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman with green skin, yet to discover the full extent of her power. Joining her is global superstar Ariana Grande, a Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist, as Glinda, the privileged and ambitious young woman still on a journey to find her true heart.
The cast also includes Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, the commanding headmistress and Dean of Sorcery Studies at Shiz University, and Jeff Goldblum as the enigmatic Wizard of Oz.
Set to release in India on November 22, Wicked promises to be a cinematic spectacle. But imagine if Wicked were made in India—here’s our dream cast for the magical tale:
Glinda (Ariana Grande): Shraddha Kapoor would be the perfect choice to bring Glinda to life. Not only is she a talented singer, but her charm and radiant smile would capture Glinda’s youthful ambition and sweetness. Her on-screen presence would effortlessly channel Glinda’s enchanting personality.
Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo): Parineeti Chopra would be an ideal fit for the role of Elphaba, the misunderstood and powerful witch. Like Cynthia Erivo, Parineeti is a trained singer with a strong voice, and her impressive acting range makes her more than capable of taking on the complex, layered character of Elphaba.
Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh): Madhuri Dixit would shine as Madame Morrible, the regal and imposing headmistress of Shiz University. Known for her elegance and poise, Madhuri could bring a perfect blend of authority and charm to the role. Watching her play the enigmatic Madame Morrible would be an absolute treat, particularly in her interactions with Shraddha and Parineeti.
Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum): The dynamic Anil Kapoor would bring his signature charisma and style to the role of the Wizard, a character who balances charm with a darker edge. Anil’s ability to command the screen would make him the ideal choice to bring this complex character to life with much flair and gravitas.
The Broadway stage musical is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone, and will be released in India by Universal Pictures (distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery) on November 22 in English.
