Laila Majnu

Laila Majnu (2018) - IMDb

This 2018 film by Imtiaz Ali is based on an old Persian Folktale of Layla and Majnun. This film stars Avinash Tiwary as Qais and Triptii Dimri as Laila and takes place in Kashmir. Qais and Laila belong to two conflicting families, who fall in love, but face opposition from their families. Due to their families and some misunderstandings, the two separate, and Laila marries another guy and Qais goes to London. But fate brings them back together, but something or the other keeps them from reuniting. Eventually, Majnu becomes eccentric and goes to mountains living with the hallucinations of Laila. At the end, Laila kills herself to reach the final stage of love, and Majnu also dies in search of Laila.

Dil Se

Released in 1998, this Mani Ratnam film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala. The film is set against the backdrop of Insurgency in Assam and is an example of parallel cinema.Amar, a journalist, falls for a mysterious woman who does not reciprocate his feelings. However, when Amar later prepares to get married, the woman shows up at his doorstep asking for help. The woman wants to seek revenge for the injustices in Assam and plans a suicide attack on the President. But, Aman stops her and both of them die in the bomb attack in each others arms.

This historical drama stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra and is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The heroic Peshwa Bajirao, married to Kashibai, falls in love with Mastani, a warrior princess in distress. They struggle to make their love triumph amid opposition from his conservative family. Eventually, Mastani is killed by Bajirao's eldest son and Bajirao dies due to a battle injury.
