The legend of 'Naale Ba,' which started in the Malleshwaram village of Karnataka in the 20th century, is quite spooky. It tells the story of a ghostly witch who haunted the streets at night. In the 1990s, people started sharing stories about this witch who would knock on doors and mimic the voices of loved ones to trick people into opening up. Those who fell for it would disappear mysteriously. According to the legend, the witch was a bride who had died on her wedding day and returned as a vengeful spirit looking for those who let her in.

As stories of disappearing families and empty homes started to spread, the villagers panicked. To protect themselves, a wise old man came up with a clever idea. He suggested the villagers to write "Nale Ba" (which means "Come Tomorrow" in Kannada) on their doors. The thought was that this would confuse the witch, making her think she would have to come back the next day. Surprisingly, this trick worked! The witch, seeing the message every night, would leave and never come back.

Even though the Naale Ba legend is mostly seen as a myth, it has become an important part of Karnataka’s cultural heritage.
