Realized, we, common people, aren’t the only ones superstitious about things crucial to us and will do anything to make them work. Celebrities are also more superstitious than we may think, and Bollywood is known for its high superstitions. Whether it's release dates or film titles, filmmakers go to extremes to ensure box office success.
One interesting fact revolves around renowned director Rakesh Roshan. The actor turned producer and director has not only been an amazing actor but has also produced and directed several hit films under his production house. Surprisingly, Rakesh Roshan has stuck to naming his films with the initial letter ‘K’ for nearly 36 years now!
But how did this interesting tale of fixation continue?
When the filmmaker debuted as a producer with ‘Aap Ke Deewane’ in 1980, it turned out to be a huge flop. However, when ‘Kaamchor’ was released in 1982, the movie became a super hit, including its songs, in which Rakesh Roshan also played a lead role. While busy producing ‘Jaag Utha Insan,’ a fan wrote a letter suggesting that he should name his movies starting with the letter K. Initially, he didn't pay attention to the fan's suggestion, but after both ‘Jaag Utha Insan’ and ‘Bhagwan Dada’ flopped, he revisited the fan's letter. The letter pointed out that his biggest hits were films that began with 'K' like ‘Khoobsurat,’ ‘Khatta Meetha,’ ‘Kaamchor,’ and ‘Khandaan.’ After the success of ‘Khudgarz,’ Roshan decided to stick to his lucky mascot. The subsequent success of his productions like ‘Khoon Bhari Maang,’ ‘Kala Bazaar,’ ‘Kishen Kanhaiya,’ ‘Karan Arjun,’ ‘Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai,’ ‘Koi.. Mil Gaya,’ ‘Krrish,’ and ‘Krrish 3’ affirmed his belief.
Roshan, who has 50 titles registered starting with 'K,' says, "As most of these films worked, I thought, why not stick to this alphabet? I won’t make all the 50 films." This proves that if you’re someone who imparts such successful instincts to your idol, it indeed shows how true a fan you are. ‘Kaabil’ (2017) became a semi-hit, which was his last production film, and until now, he hasn't backed up any movies. Meanwhile, he’s preparing for the fourth instalment of India’s biggest superhero franchise film titled ‘Krrish 4,’ but there are no official announcements about it.
Adding to this instance, in the initial years, Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor also used to title most of their productions with ‘K.’ While they are no longer partial to the alphabet now.
