Bollywood film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, starring Akshay Kumar was a step towards PM Modi’s initiative of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to promote cleanliness. Recently, veteran actor Jaya Bachchan shared her views about the film.
In conversation with a news portal, the 76 year old actress criticised the title and said she would not watch a film with that title, “Just look at the title of the film; I would never go to watch a film with such a name. Yeh koi naam hai? Is that really a name?” The actress then asked how many people watched the film, to which only 4 people raised their hands, “Among so many people, hardly four want to watch the film; it’s very sad. It’s a flop movie.”
She further said, "In today’s day and age, even political parties are making films, and to discuss all that, we need a lot of time."
The clip went viral on social media, and many fans defended the film. One user said, Toilet was a really good movie though! It brought awareness to a topic that's rarely spoken about in public and Akshay was very funny in it. It was a hit too I think,” whereas another angry fan wrote, “How ridiculous. That movie was a great message of the troubles of women in India surviving in a villages. People like her have luxurious life and talk.Akshay did a great job.”
Another said criticised her son, Abhishek Bachchan’s films, Jaya Bachchan says nobody will watch movies with name like Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Padman. Collections: Toilet ek prem katha- 216 crore, Padman- 191 crores. Much more than movies of Abhishek. Btw Amitabh Bachchan made a movie Piku where all he talked about was Toilet.”
