Runway 34 Review: Ajay Devgan, Rakul Preet Singh & Amitabh Bachchan starrer Runway 34 is one of the best movies based on aviation background.

From trailer launch to interviews Ajay Devgan and his crew were mentioning about the technique of filmmaking used in the recently released film by Ajay Devgan Films, Runway 34. Well, they proved right on their sayings, film wins the audiences reviews with its own film-making style and the way technology has used in the film.

Ajay Devgan’s third directorial second after ‘Shivaay’ & under his own production banner, ADF (Ajay Devgan Films) starring himself in the lead role, Runway 34 also features Rakul Preet Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Akanksha Singh, Boman Irani & Angira Dhar in key roles. This star-studded film, based on true events has done critically well in the first impression of the viewing.

Having said that it’s based on true events, Runway 34 doesn’t stylize the actual scene but stick to reality and real-life situation. It’s a clear-cut story where an experienced pilot well, an experienced but slightly careless pilot Captain Vikrant Khanna saves life of 150 passengers during a critical landing in stormy conditions. The story doesn’t end here but the first half of the film does.

In the second half, Amitabh Bachchan enters in the show to investigate the accident, the indecisive decisions and behavior of Captain Vikrant Khanna during the flight. He truly steals the show from everyone around him in the frame as he always shines in the courtroom dramas. Anyone could have done his role but the extra Amitabh Bachchan flavor adds a lot to the story.

On the acting front Ajay looks stunning as always while as rightly said Big B owns the screen, Rakul looks fantastic and portrays her character of young pilot well especially the trauma conditions! To specificlly mention about characters, Devgan’s Vikrant Khanna is the perfect dashing person with the set of his own rules which are stylized and heroic in every way. At some points he is the most careless person about his duty but when he is serious, he means it. Just like his dialogue, “Kuch Din Aise Hote Hai When I Love My Job, Par Kuch Din Aise Hote Hai When I Hate My Job.”

Amitabh Bachchan’s character doesn’t have much time for the buildup but it really portrays a big role in the story. On the other hand, other supporting actors again doesn’t get much time to show their presence but the performances and the output looks good.

Cinematically the director Ajay Devgan has taken quite a risk, majorly while doing such a real-life based story you don’t want to break the suspense to the audience, you want it to be there till the last minute to see the BOOM reactions. But AD has some different plans for you, he breaks the suspense in the first half of the movie by showing the incident and then he discusses it in the other half mostly sitting in a court-room.

Majority of the people won’t like this angle of the cinematography and screenplay as we’re prepared for the suspense-thrillers over the period and Runway 34 doesn’t have big surprises in the last 10 minutes which were supposed to be there. Only fact that Ajay haven’t stretch anything too much he has kept it subtle and smooth as it flows.

Runway 34 would be a good entertainer and one time watch while it would interest you to dive in the captain’s cabin of a flight and their lives. Considering box office, it would definitely be the difficult choice for viewers to watch this movie over something light.
