Who or what is your inspiration behind your designs?
My autumn-winter festive collection done in jewel tones is inspired by 'Sayuri' who plays a protagonist in the movie 'Memoirs of the Geisha'. But I keep in mind to incorporate the Indian silhouettes that I am known for when it comes to my Kaftans.
Since you incorporate elements of nature in your pieces, what is the most challenging part about it?
I think nature is so abundant and it has always been an inspiration for my brand. In this sense, we got onto collecting the motives from Japanese textiles and florals like peonies and wisterias, and their embroideries transformed into prints for the collection.
How do you keep up with the ongoing trends in regard to designing your clothes?
I think we've never followed a trend as such. we believe in our brand, we believe in our customers in terms of what they would like to wear from us and we just keep enhancing that year after year
What has been your best piece so far?
Our best piece has been our Imama Kaftan which has a brooch of our insignia under the empire that shapes the waist so well. The Kaftan is luxurious yet comfortable that can be worn anytime of the day.
