Much was expected from Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Pankaj Tripathi starrer 83 due to humongous star cast, mega budget and solid trailer. However, the cricket biopic drama failed at the box office in its first week itself. Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 and produced by Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films and Kabir Khan Films Production, 83 opened on a low note with Rs 12.64 crore from 3741 screens nationwide. There was a slight jump on Christmas day with Rs 16.95 crore but Sunday was limited with Rs 17.60 crore.
The cricket biopic drama dropped on Monday to Rs 7.29 crore while Tuesday and Wednesday were stable with Rs 6.70 crore and Rs 5.70 crore. As per early report, the cricket biopic drama dropped further on Thursday, minting Rs 5.10-5.20 crore and bringing the first week total to around Rs 71.50 crore crore in Hindi. The good news is that 83 will not face any competition this week due to Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey getting postponed. However with huge budget close to Rs 200 crore and restrictions due to rising COVID-19 cases and limited occupancy, 83 has dim chances to sail it through at the box office.
