Group of Youth are on mission to restore the history
Group of young people who is the mission of restore the lakes, ponds and temples.

Karnataka: In Mysuru there is group of young people who is the mission of restore the lakes, ponds and temples in the region along with the surrounding cleaning.

The name of the group is National Service Scheme and the braving youth and people along with them to support to restore the temples structures and the surrounding area, which have been neglected.

Renovating history

Now over 4 years has been over to these group of NSS volunteers from Seshadripuram Degree College in Mysuru and volunteers of Achievers’ Academy in Srirangapatna.

This group has given a new life to many temples which was hit by the nature and time. Atleast 10 temple tanks, four lakes, and Uncountable temples has been cover by this group of youth.

It initially began as an initiative as part of the NSS programme under the leadership of Dr Raghavendra R, NSS programme officer of Seshadripuram Degree College.

Now it has over 300 volunteers working hard to restore these structures.

NSS programme officer of Seshadripuram Degree College, Dr Raghavendra said- “NSS aims to develop a student’s personality through community service. So, by involving NSS volunteers of our college, we decided to clean up temple tanks and make them fully functional again. That is how it all started. Students of our academy too joined us in the restoration drive, they come voluntarily with great zeal and passion to give back something fruitful to society.” 

He also added- “We ensure that all precautionary measures are taken and equipment needed is made available to our volunteers. We talk to the villagers to get a clear idea of the place and obtain the necessary permission from the officials.”

Many tanks was dried up or some of them have become polluted with waste water. So our attempt to keep the clean the area from our end and also make people aware of their historical importance. As these places were once a lifetime to many people and the temple priest also take the water of tanks for the puja and all.
