COVID-19 Studies: The study say that the COVID-19 is affected many people lives but also caused an impact on the life expectancy which dropped by 2 years for both men and women.

COVID-19 impact on the life expectancy

COVID-19 study: The Life expectancy is came down. In 2019 it was 69.5 and 72 years for both men and women and in 2020 it was 67.5 and 69.8 years.

Due to the COVID-19, the life expectancy is came down with drastic changes. Before the COVID-19 in the year 2019 it was 69.5 years for men and 72 years for women. And in 2020 it came down to 67.5 years for men and 69.8 years for women- the report said.

The COVID-19 pandemic was started since from the last year. Many peoples lives get affected during this Pandemic year. This cause is also affected to the life expectancy in India.

The International Institute for population studies (IIPS) scientists has revealed by the statistics analysis.

IIPS professor Suryakant Yadav has authored the report- that the analytical report say that due to the pandemic their is drop in the life expectancy at the birth of both men and women.

The report said- "The life expectancy at birth in 2019 was 69.5 years for men and 72 years for women, which came down to 67.5 years and 69.8 years, respectively, in 2020."

The life expectancy at birth is calculated on the basis of the average number of years a newborn is expected to live if mortality patterns at the time of the birth of the infant remain constant in future.

The study undertaken by professor Yadav also included a factor termed 'length of life inequality' and found that COVID-19 has claimed maximum lives of men in the age group of 39-69.

"The 35-79 age group had excess deaths caused by COVID-19 in 2020 as compared to normal years and it is this group that has contributed immensely to the drop," Ms Yadav said.

IIPS director Dr KS James said, "Every time we are affected with some epidemic, the life expectancy at birth figures dwindle. For instance, after the HIV-AIDS epidemic in African nations, the expectancy had dropped. Once it was brought under control, the life expectancy recouped as well."

What is the life expectancy of 2021?

The current life expectancy for India in 2021 is 69.96 years, a 0.33% increase from 2020. The life expectancy for India in 2020 was 69.73 years, a 0.33% increase from 2019.
