According to the Guinness World Book of Records, the most expensive caviar recorded is from a possibly 100-year-old albino beluga sturgeon. The white caviar is sold for around $34,500 (₹25 lakhs) per kilogram. The fish that produced this rare caviar lived in the Caspian Sea originally, but now they are almost extinct in their native environment.

Translating to civet coffee, it’s made from coffee beans that are eaten, partly digested and defecated by the civet cat or Asian pam civet. It’s believed that the partly digested coffee beans are fermented in the animal’s stomach and enhance the flavour of the coffee. Bags of kopi luwak sell for up to $700 per kg.

7. Ayam Cemani Black Chicken

It’s an extremely rare breed of chicken where one chick of this variety is priced over $200(₹14,661) in Indonesia. Outside Indonesia, the price can go up to thousands of dollars. Exports of Ayam Cemani Black chicken are banned due to a fear of bird flu.

The ham derives its flavour from oleic acid found in the acorns. This ham has a deep red colour and uniquely rich flavour. It’s matured from 24 to 36 months. You’d have to shell out up to $4,500(₹3,29,891) for a whole leg of the Iberian ham.

10. Black Watermelon:

You’d have gorged on green watermelon, but what’s the black watermelon? Well, it’s one of the most expensive food items in the world, that’s a distinctive fruit from Japan. Also known as Densuke Melon, this fruit has a crunchy taste. Grown on the island of Hokkaido, these watermelons need space and lots of tending to. In case you’re wondering they are not black but a dark shade of green that often appears black. Only 1,00,000 black watermelons are available each year and due to the scarcity, they can fetch up to $6,000 (₹4,39,855)at auction.
