A shocking incident unfolded in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman reportedly poisoned her husband right after breaking her fast on Karwa Chauth, a festival where wives pray for their husbands' well-being. The victim, Shailesh Kumar, 32, and his wife, Savita, had been facing marital issues, according to local police.
The day began with Shailesh assisting in preparations for the Karwa Chauth rituals. As Savita fasted all day, tensions rose between the couple. Just before she was set to break her fast, they had an argument that left the atmosphere tense. However, things seemed to settle down later when Savita prepared dinner.
Once the meal was ready, she served Shailesh macaroni that was allegedly laced with poison. After serving him, she told him she was going to visit a neighbor and left the scene. Moments later, Shailesh’s health took a turn for the worse. His family rushed him to the hospital, but despite their efforts, he died during treatment.
Before passing away, Shailesh recorded a video statement where he accused Savita of poisoning him, adding to the gravity of the situation. His family, devastated by the loss, immediately notified the police, leading to an investigation. Based on a complaint from Shailesh’s brother, authorities launched a case against Savita, who was later apprehended and is currently being interrogated.
Kaushambi Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Shrivastava confirmed the incident and stated that they would take appropriate legal action following the results of the post-mortem examination.
