A young girl tragically passed away after consuming her own birthday cake ordered from the restaurant 'Cake Kanha' via Zomato. The incident, which unfolded in Patiala, left the family devastated as others who consumed the cake also fell ill.

In response, Zomato swiftly removed the restaurant from its platform and barred the owner from any future operations on the app. Expressing deep sorrow, a Zomato spokesperson conveyed full cooperation with law enforcement's investigation into the matter.

Here is the whole statement:

“We are heartbroken and deeply shaken up by the recent tragic incident that happened in Patiala. As soon as we learnt about the incident, which is now under police investigation, we immediately delisted the restaurant from the Zomato platform. We have also debarred the restaurant owner from operating any entity on Zomato. We are extending our complete support to the law enforcement agencies in the matter.”

Amidst the unfolding tragedy, police have initiated legal action under IPC sections pertaining to selling harmful food and causing death by negligence. Furthermore, discrepancies in the billing details, including an absence of a physical address and billing from a different city, have raised suspicions about the restaurant's operation, hinting at potential irregularities.
