In a heartbreaking turn of events in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, five individuals lost their lives while attempting to save a cat from an abandoned well. Late on Tuesday, tragedy struck as the abandoned well, originally a biogas pit, became the site of a fatal rescue mission.
According to reports from news agency ANI, the ill-fated individuals leapt into the well one after the other in a valiant effort to rescue the stranded feline. Despite their noble intentions, the perilous situation claimed the lives of five of the rescuers.
Fortunately, one individual, who had descended into the well with a safety rope, was successfully pulled to safety by a team of police personnel. He was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Senior police officer Dhananjay Jadhav expressed profound sorrow over the incident, confirming that a rescue team recovered the bodies of the deceased from the abandoned well. He disclosed that the well had been previously used for storing animal waste.
As the community reels from the tragic loss, authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
