New Update

In a bizarre turn of events, rats were blamed for the destruction of 10 kg of bhang and nine kg of ganja, which had been confiscated and stored in a police station in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district. The matter came to light when the police informed a court in the district, as reported by an advocate associated with the case on Sunday.

The police submitted a report to Principal District and Sessions Judge Ram Sharma after the court directed the officer in-charge of Rajganj police station to produce the bhang and ganja seized six years ago. The report stated that rats had completely destroyed the narcotics substances stored in the malkhana (store) of the police station, leading to a loss of the confiscated materials.

The incident stemmed from the arrest of one Shambhu Prasad Agrawal and his son on December 14, 2018, by Rajganj police, who were found in possession of the bhang and ganja. An FIR had been lodged against them at the police station. However, during the trial, the police were unable to exhibit the confiscated materials as they had allegedly been destroyed by rats.

The defence lawyer in the case, Abhay Bhatt, expressed suspicion that his client might have been framed in false cases, considering the police's failure to produce the confiscated substances in court. The matter has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about the security of evidence and storage facilities in police stations.
