New Delhi: In light of the current conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the Pentagon has declared the disposal of the advanced Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to Israel. This decision aims to tighten Israel's air defenses following recent missile strikes from Iran and rising anxiety in the region. Alongside the THAAD battery, about 100 US workforce will be sent to manage the system.

The Pentagon's decision to deploy THAAD follows explosive attacks on Israel by Iran on April 13 and October 1. THAAD is designed to seize ballistic missiles, providing an additional layer of security to Israel's defense framework and potentially reducing future dangers from Iran or its enemies.

The presence of US troops is intended not only to safeguard Israel but also to give it a strategic edge as it considers revengeful measures against Iran. This circumstance escalates amid concerns that Israel might launch an offensive against Iranian targets, further subverting an already major region.

The US has firmly supported Israel's right to defend itself while engaging in high-level evaluations with Israeli officials to manage the scenario and prevent a spiraling escalation. Following the sudden repercussion of Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in over 1,200 Israeli mortalities, the US army has notably increased its presence in the Middle East.

The deployment of US forces and systems like THAAD also serves as a caution sign  to Iran and its allies, which includes Hezbollah, about the intense repercussions of further escalation.

As the US amplifies Israel's defenses, ground dispute has intensified. Recently, Israel's military confirmed the passing away of 4 soldiers due to a Hezbollah drone strike on a military base in Binyamina, near Haifa. Israeli emergency services reported that over sixty people were hurt in the attack, with injuries ranging from mild to critical.

Hezbollah has been conducting rocket and drone attacks against Israel for over one  year, ramping up its operations with more recurring strikes penetrating intensely into Israeli region. While Israel's advanced air defense systems, including the Iron Dome, have intercepted many of these menaces, the frequency and severity of Hezbollah's attacks are testing the waters of Israel's defense capabilities.
