The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following the recent killings of a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and Hamas’ top political leader in Iran, reportedly by Israeli strikes. Both Hezbollah and Hamas receive support from Iran.

Defense officials noted that troops at al-Asad air base are still evaluating the injuries and damage, with initial reports suggesting that up to seven military personnel and civilians were hurt. Iraqi security officials have confirmed the attack, though no group has yet claimed responsibility.
