PM Modi Seeks Muhamed Yunus’s Commitment to Protect Hindus in Bangladesh

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Nobel laureate economist Muhammad Yunus, recently appointed as the head of Bangladesh's interim government, to guarantee "the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities."

Following the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on Monday, reports emerged of violence targeting Hindu minorities in various regions of the country. On Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh.

“There are also indications that several groups and organizations are taking steps to ensure the protection and welfare of minority communities,” Jaiswal informed reporters. “I want to echo the External Affairs Minister’s remarks in Parliament. We appreciate these efforts but will remain profoundly concerned until law and order are visibly restored.”

“We anticipate a swift return to stability, with a focus on safeguarding Hindus and all other minority communities,” Modi stated in a post on X. “India is dedicated to collaborating with Bangladesh to achieve the mutual goals of our peoples for peace, security, and development.”
