"So far, so good," the 82-year-old stated. "But who knows what I'm going to be when I'm 86 years old," Mr. Biden told in an interview with USA Today.

The departing US President opened up that he was considering preemptive apologies for Trump’s adversaries, including former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney and former senior health official Dr. Anthony Fauci. Mr. Trump has threatened to investigate and prosecute Dr. Fauci for his criticism of the Republican handling of the Covid-19 pandemic during Trump’s 1st term, while Cheney played a major role in efforts to impeach him. This interview with USA Today marks the only exit interview Mr. Biden has granted to a print outlet, as media access to him has been totally controlled by the White House.

In an interview published on Wednesday, Mr. Biden recounted a meeting with Mr. Trump a week after the November election, where he asked him not to proceed with threats, requesting him to "make clear that there was no need, and it was counterintuitive for his interest to go back and try to settle scores." When he was asked about Mr. Trump's reaction to his request, the President said, "He didn't say, 'No, I'm going to ...' You know. He didn't reinforce it. He just basically listened."

Mr. Biden indicated that his final decision on pardons would depend on the important appointments Mr. Trump makes in his administration. The incoming President has named former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as head of the Justice Department and loyalist Kash Patel to lead l FBI team. Mr. Biden also included that during the same meeting, Mr. Donald Trump was "complimentary" of his economic record, telling him, "He [Trump] thought I was leaving with a good record."

The outgoing President also defended the full and unconditional pardon granted to his Son, Hunter Biden, who faced sentencing for 2 criminal cases — tax evasion & the illegal purchase of a firearm. Mr. Biden explained that he meant it when he had promised to pardon Hunter but then discovered two necessary facts: "Number one, that he had paid all his taxes.

He paid them late. He was fighting a drug problem. And he beat it. He's been square and sober for almost six years now...And then the second thing I found out was that on this purchasing a gun, at the time, you have to sign a form if you're under the influence of anything. Well, I don't even know whether they got straight on the signing of the form. But the point was, no one's ever been tried on that. Nobody," he stated.
