US President Donald Trump stated that his first conversation on Friday with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was "extremely productive," even after ongoing disagreements over tariffs & Trump's recent suggestions to annex Canada.
Trump also mentioned that they had agreed to meet shortly after Canada's general electionUS on April 28, which Carney had called soon after replacing Justin Trudeau, Trump's political rival, 2 weeks earlier.
"I just finished speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney, of Canada. It was an extremely productive call, we agree on many things," Trump elaborated on his Truth Social platform.
He also mentioned that they would be "meeting immediately after Canada's upcoming Election to work on elements of Politics, Business, and all other factors, that will end up being great for both the United States of America and Canada."
Trump's upbeat post marked a marked shift from the harsh rhetoric seen lately between Washington and Ottawa.
In a reflection of the strained relations, Carney had stated on Thursday that the long-standing era of close economic, security, & military bond between Canada and the United States "is over."
