This cruel pandemic has forced the many makers of the films to release them on the OTT platform instead theatrical release. Many are not happy with this but there’s no option left for anyone. Recently, Coolie No 1 team is facing a lot of difficulties due to which they’re going to release the film on the Amazon Prime Video. Which was earlier stated for theatrical release on May 1.
The producer Vashu Bhagnani and Director David Dhawan made hard to decide with the heads of the teams on the multiple times of video conference calls. Also Vashu had a long discussion with the heads of the national multiplex chains. In which he requested much to them that to give him a sizable amount of advance and MG royalty for the film. In return, where they are also helpless to agree with his needs.
Also before it’s theatrical release the eight-week period was fixed long back! With a lots of efforts Vashu also explained the multiplex chains would gain nothing by insisting eight-week gap between theatrical and OTT release if people were going to wary of visiting cinemas. Also What the multiplex chains counter-offered him was that instead of waiving off the eight-week window, they would shoulder the additional interest that he was paying while waiting for cinemas to reopen, by giving him concessions in booking terms, forgoing some charges and aiding in the promotion of his film at nominal or no cost.
One close to Bhagnani said, “Multiplexes have been pleading with producers to not premiere their films on streaming platforms but they are not doing enough in return. The least they can do for producers standing in solidarity with them is to make concessions in the threshold period.”
So the Coolie No 1 is also going to ultimately opting for a digital premiere. Hope this kinda period never comes in our near future, wish for the best!
