The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest report has said that the conditions are favorable for the advance of southwest monsoon into Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 3 days. The weather agency has predicted that 12 states including West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam may receive heavy rains. It has also said that heat wave will continue in many states of North India. The IMD has issued a red alert for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. At the same time, heat wave warning has also been issued in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.

According to the IMD forecast, heat wave to severe heat wave is likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh during June 13-17. Heat wave is likely in Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand on 13th and 14th. The Meteorological Department said that during the next 5 days, winds will blow at a speed of 40-60 kmph and light rain will occur in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh. According to the IMD, India has received one percent less rainfall than normal since the season started on June 1.

According to the IMD, light to heavy rains with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana during the next five days. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during June 13-16.

The weather official said that the heatwave is likely to continue for four-five days in northern and eastern states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Odisha. On the condition of anonymity, the official said that the weather models are not indicating any relief from the heat soon. The delay in monsoon will affect the temperature of the plains.
