The Siliguri Police Commissionerate recently launched Pink Patrol Vans to ensure women’s safety around the clock. These patrol units were flagged off by Police Commissioner C Sudhakar to create a safer environment for women in the city. However, the reported actions of one of the officers on duty have now raised concerns among residents regarding the misuse of authority and the actual safety measures in place.

Locals expressed outrage over the incident, which not only involved the adult woman but allegedly also two minors. According to reports, ASI Roy confronted the two teenagers, a boy and a girl, in a school area late at night. The parents of the minors claim the children were simply talking, and they weren’t involved in any inappropriate behavior. The officer reportedly acted aggressively toward the teens without prior inquiry, further escalating public concern.

Following the backlash, senior officers confirmed that ASI Tanya Roy was suspended pending an investigation. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated to look into her conduct while on duty. Community members, meanwhile, are calling for strict action to prevent similar incidents in the future, stressing the need for accountability to ensure public safety, particularly for women and minors.
