Recently, a 12-foot long King Cobra was rescued and released into the forest by wildlife officials in Karnataka’s Agumbe. Ajay Giri, field director at Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS), took to Instagram to post the video displaying the rescue process.
According to Ajay, locals saw the cobra crossing a main road and then it went in a bush for refuge inside a house's compound. When the owner saw the snake, he notified the ARRS and the forest department. “Owner of the house and neighbours got worried and informed in-charge forest department officials. ARRS was informed about the situation. Over the call we instructed locals about do’s and don’t’s and rushed to the location,” said the field director in his Instagram post.
Ajay Giri rushed to the scene, while also giving intructions to the residents over the phone. After examining the situation, the officials extracted the snake from the bush with a stick. In front of the residents and forest department representatives, they then put the cobra into a rescue bag and let it go back into the wild.
The video went viral on social media, with netizens appreciating and praising the officials for their bravery in the recue mission.
