An annual Ganpati festival in Secunderabad, Telangana, has stirred controversy due to claims that the deity’s appearance resembles a "Muslim-like" figure.

The Young Leo's Youth Association, who organized the event, explained that the theme of their pandal was inspired by Bollywood movie Bajirao Mastani and featured a Ganesh idol dressed in an outfit similar to that worn by actor Ranveer Singh in the film.

However, certain groups found the representation inappropriate, sparking criticism. Social media was quickly flooded with negative comments, further fueling the controversy.

In response, the organisers clarified that the outcome was unintended and blamed the confusion on a misunderstanding with the artist. "We didn’t deliberately choose this theme, and the result did not match our original vision. We never intended to offend anyone," a committee member told India Today. The organisers urged the public to avoid misunderstandings and continue the celebrations peacefully.

Despite the backlash, the Young Leo's Youth Association remains committed to celebrating Ganpati Bappa and insists the incident will not escalate further. “Our goal is to move forward and celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with joy and unity,” the member added.
