Malaysian Beauty Queen Looses Title After Holiday Video Goes Viral

Viru Nikah Terinsip, the winner of the Unduk Ngadau Johor title in 2023, has been dethroned following a viral video that sparked widespread criticism on social media.

The video, showing Terinsip "dancing suggestively with scantily clad male dancers" during a holiday in Thailand, drew swift backlash, prompting her to return her title voluntarily.

Hours before the decision to strip her of the crown was made by Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Terinsip relinquished her title.

Kitingan emphasized that the association did not want to attract unnecessary attention and hoped that Terinsip would accept the decision gracefully.

In response, Terinsip posted a video on social media expressing her willingness to return the title "with honor and humbleness," emphasizing that it was her own decision and not coerced.

She highlighted the importance of self-worth and resilience, stating that titles do not define perfection or success, and urged focus on more pressing issues. Terinsip also appealed to leave her family and friends out of the matter, expressing gratitude for the support received and offering a heartfelt apology.

"I joined the Unduk Ngadau competition by my own will and returned this title without coercion. I respect my decision, The title is not everything. It is about believing and valuing myself.

The title does not determine one’s perfection or success. I am not perfect, everyone makes mistakes.

I am thankful for all the beautiful words coming from netizens, and let’s focus on other issues and more forward.
