In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a BMTC bus driver in Bengaluru, Kiran Kumar, suffered a heart attack while driving his final route of the day. The 40-year-old driver collapsed at around 11 am while transporting passengers from Nelamangala to Dasanapura. CCTV footage captured the moment Kiran slumped in his seat, losing control of the vehicle, which then grazed another BMTC bus on the road.
The situation could have turned dire, but quick action from the conductor, Obalesh, prevented a major accident. As Kiran collapsed, Obalesh immediately jumped into action, taking the driver’s seat and applying the brakes to bring the bus to a safe stop. His response potentially saved the lives of approximately 50 passengers onboard, as well as nearby pedestrians and riders on the road.
The CCTV footage from inside the bus shows the split-second decision that Obalesh made to prevent what could have been a serious accident. In the video, Kiran can be seen collapsing from his seat, followed by Obalesh taking control of the bus, ensuring the safety of those onboard and in the vicinity.
Following the incident, crew members from the other BMTC bus rushed to assist Kiran. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts, he did not survive.
