The incident took place at about 9: 57 am when Sushant Chakravarty had his red Maruti Brezza moving towards the south of the bridge, after which he jumped off the bridge from there, said the police.

Susant Chakravarty, the manager of the public sector bank, dies after he allegedly jumped off from Atal Setu in the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link on Monday morning. Different call centres including Sewri police and other agencies are still hunting in the sea for the missing man. As per the police, the accident happened around 9.57 am.

On the same day, Sushant Senior Police Inspector Rohit Khot said “We get the information of this incident from the traffic department then police teams have been rushed to reach the spot to look for this man.” Police said that they found his identity after searching in the car, Chakravarty was staying at his rented apartment in Parel with his wife, a seven-year-old daughter, and mother-in-law and had parked his red Maruti Brezza on the southbound part of the bridge before the incident and jumped off.

Since Chakravarty had drowned in the sea with his phone and car key, which we could not reach, later we went to his house at Parel with a team,” he said. Sewri police, who are probing the matter, have not recovered any note. As the new bank manager Chakravarty was employed at the Hutatma Chowk located in Fort branch of the bank. In fact for the past three days he had taken his family to Lonavala for a weekend trip. As usual, on Monday he told his family that he was heading for office and then he went straight to Atal Setu and committed suicide by jumping off the bridge,” Khot said.

The search operations to find Chakravarty's body were stopped by evening. “As it turned dark, we stopped the search operation but we will restart the operation on Tuesday. We have approached fishermen in the area to help with any information,” Khot added.
