Prithvi Shaw broke Mayank Agarwal’s record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after he becomes the highest scoring batsman in a single edition of the competition. Mayank Agarwal scored 723 runs for Karnataka in the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Prithvi Shaw outdid Agarwal in his fiery knock of 165 against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020 semifinals.
The opener smashed an attacking 165 off 122 balls and gave an incredible start to his team in the knockout stage. Ahead of the semifinals, Shaw had already registered 589 runs in six games. He needed more 135 runs to break Agarwal’s record of most runs in a single season.
The in-form Shaw was completely over the Karnataka bowlers and created havoc throughout his 165-run stay at the crease in the Airforce Complex ground in Palam. He reached his half-century in just 41 balls and completed his century in just 38 deliveries. The Mumbai opener registered his fourth century of the tournament along with three 150+ scores in the on-going edition. He took more 32 balls to complete the 150-run mark.
Shaw was batting in full flow and was on the verge of scoring his second double century of the season but fell prey to Vyshak Vijay Kumar in the 41st over. Shaw’s innings of 165 include 17 fours and seven sixes. After an underwhelming Australia tour, Shaw started the Vijay Hazare trophy with a bang. He went to score four centuries and currently averages 188.50 with an impressive strike rate of 134.88. Shaw would be aiming to get into a full-flow before the IPL 2021 commences.
