This is probably the best news of the day as Venice Film Festival winner last year, Chaitanya Tamhane’s The Disciple , will be coming on Netflix.
Venice Film Festival is the world’s oldest festival which has innumerable talents across the globe have the opportunity to display their work. 20 years back, Mira Nair directed Monsoon Wedding, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Raaz and Randeep Hooda won the acclaimed. Chaitanya Tamhane’s The Disciple was the second Indian film to win Best Screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival this year.
Now, the big news is that Netflix has acquired the global rights to The Disciple which is also being supported by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón served as the executive producer. The maverick director of Rome, Children Of Men and The Gravity mentions “I believe Chaitanya is one of the most important new voices of contemporary cinema and I’m thrilled The Disciple will be able to be enjoyed by audiences all around the world.”
