EA Sports have announced an annual FIFA Team of the Year yesterday, which didn’t include Lionel Messi. This is the first time that the Argentine legend has been excluded from EA Sports Team of the Year.

This team of the world’s best players is said to be picked from a pool of 70 nominees. Based on fan votes, the committee selects the best footballers over the last twelve months. EA Sports revealed that the FIFA 21 Team Of The Year was selected based on 10 million votes. Lionel Messi was the shocking absentee from the final Ultimate Team after Barcelona struggled in the 2019-2020 season and continue to do so in the on-going 2020-21 season.

Lionel Messi has scored 14 goals and assisting 6 in this season. Bayern Munich were represented in the FIFA 21 Team of the Year with four of their players making into the team. Messi could still make into the team as EA sports also announces an additional 12th player. EA Sports are yet to announce the 12th player and the fans are expecting the 12th player could be the Argentine legend Messi.
