On March 23 2016, India faced Bangladesh at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the group stage match of the T20I World Cup. Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field against the Indian team. India set up a below-par target of 147 for the visiting Bangladesh team.
The underdogs commenced the chase on a positive note and were cruising comfortably towards the total. India kept themselves into the game as they successfully managed to take wickets at regular intervals which put Bangladesh under immense pressure. The match went in the last over, India needed to defend 11 runs against Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah. Hardik Pandya was given the responsibility to finish the game with the ball, the all-rounder conceded nine runs of the first three deliveries. Two runs were needed off the last three deliveries, Pandya managed to pick two wickets in the next two bowls and shifted the momentum towards India. On the last delivery, two runs were needed for Bangladesh to win, Pandya went for the wide delivery which the batsman couldn’t make contact. Instead of throwing the ball, Mahendra Singh Dhoni ran towards the stumps and dismantled the willow before the non-striker could complete the run. Chinnaswamy erupted along with the 11 Indian players who won the game and kept their World Cup hopes alive.
