In the semi-final of the World Cup 2011, India beat Pakistan in a high octane fixture by 29 runs in Mohali. India won the toss and chose to bat, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag gave a flyer start to the hosts. Tendulkar anchored the Indian innings before he departed for his hard-fought 85. Suresh Raina scored a crucial 36 at the back end of the innings and helped India to a competitive total of 260 on a slow pitch.

In reply, Pakistan could only score 231 in the second innings. After a good opening partnership, the visitors couldn’t sustain the fall of wickets at regular intervals. Misbah-ul-Haq kept the chase alive amidst the fall of wickets but his contribution with the bat wasn’t good enough to take his team over the finishing line. Pakistan needed 30 off the last over, Misbah went for the maximum but couldn’t clear the ground and found the fielder at the boundary. India’s arch-rival fell short of the target by 29 runs and the hosts advanced into the World Cup 2011 finals.
