Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget Day Saree Is A Tribute To Madhubani Art

In today's budget session, Nirmala Sitharaman wore a beautiful handloom-silk saree. The embroidery design on the saree was fish-themed & had a Golden Border.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has always gained attention because of her saree and its design. Sarees that she wore were always of different designs and embroidery. Finance Minister pays tribute to an artist Padma awardee Dulari Devi.

Dulari Devi, who received the Padma Shri in 2021, met Nirmala Sitharaman during a credit outreach program at the Mithila Art Institute in Madhubani, Bihar. During their exchange, the two discussed the importance of Madhubani art. There Dulari Devi presented the saree as a gift to Sitharaman, requesting her to wear it on Budget Day.

Today she dropped a beautiful handloom silk saree, it had an embroidery fish-themed design & had a Golden Border. Miss Sitharaman paired this saree with a red blouse and a white shawl. This saree was made by Padma awardee Dulari Devi.  

Madhubani is a famous art design from Mithila region of Bihar. It is known for its vibrant color and beautiful traditional designs. Dulari Devi learned this art form from her employer Karpoori Devi an expert in this artform. Despite facing so many hurdles in life, Dulari Devi spread awareness about "child marriage,AIS, feoticide and many other social issues. Ms Devi has made at least 10,000 paintings which are displayed in over 50 exhibitions.
