Gully Boy (2019)
From the director of Luck by Chance (2009), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Zoya Akhtar was back with a hard-hitting drama, Gully Boy, which showcased the world of rappers in slum area of Dharavi. Ranveer Singh essayed the role of an aspiring rapper who wanted to make it big despite all opposition along with Alia Bhatt, who played his love interest. The trailer generated a solid response, especially the song “Apna Time Aayega” which was playing in almost across every radio station.
The film promotion, first-time pairing of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt (though their pairing was loved in Make My Trip ads) and the occasion of Valentine’s Day helped Gully Boy generate solid numbers at the box office, eventually making Rs 139.63 crore against a budget of Rs 60 crore.
