There were four significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Sunny Deol starrer Zor, Shah Rukh Khan and Irrfan Khan starrer Billu, Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal starrer Roy and Kay Kay Menon starrer The Stoneman Murder. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
It was a golden time for Sunny Deol as he delivered two continuous blockbusters – Border (1997) and Ziddi (1997). The expectations were sky-high from Zor due to its mamoth budget, star cast and promising trailer. The movie opened with a bang but the wafer-thin plot and poor screenplay played the spoilsports. The movie could not sustain and turned out to a flop at the box office, collecting Rs 10.56 crores against a budget of Rs 15 crore.
Directed by Priyadarshan, Billu was a beautiful tale of friendship and sacrifice. Starring Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta in a pivotal role, Billu also had Shah Rukh Khan in special appearance. Unfortunately, the film tanked at the box office and turned out to be a “Flop”, collecting Rs 22.71 crore against a budget of Rs 27 crore.
The Stoneman Murders (2009)
Probably, one of the most under-rated film of 2009, The Stoneman Murder was well-scripted and well-performed dark thriller. Based on a true incidents which rocked the city of Bombay during the early the 1980’s era, The Stoneman Murders had a great acting to watch out by Kay Kay Menon and Arbaaz Khan. However, the film just came and went away without making any impact at the box office, minting Rs 60 lakhs against a budget of Rs 4.75 crore.
Roy had everything going in its favor – strong cast, solid pre-buzz and good music. Unfortunately, the Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernanzdez starrer lacked a good content which made the film miserable to watch. The mystery drama collected Rs 36 crore against a budget of Rs 50 crore.
