There were four significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit starrer Anjaam, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar starrer Waqt, Swara Bhaskar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer Nil Battey Sannata. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
After playing the grey characters in Baazigar and Darr, Shah Rukh Khan nailed it for the third time with Rahul Rawail directed Anjaam. Shah Rukh Khan played the role of an obsessed lover who would do anything to get Shivani Chopra (played brilliantly by Madhuri Dixit). The music composed by Anand-Milind was outstanding with songs like “Badi Mushkil Hain” and “Chane Ke Kheth Mein” becoming an instant hit. Anjaam turned out to be profitable for its makers, collecting Rs 5 crore against a budget of Rs 2.65 crore.
2. Waqt – The Race Against Time (2005)
After the success of Ek Rishtaa, Vipul Shah, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar collaborated once again for Waqt in 2005. The family drama got good reviews from the critics in terms of performance, songs and screenplay. Waqt did well at the box office, collecting Rs 20.25 crore against a budget of Rs 16 crore.
Nil Battey Sannata – 2015
Directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, Nil Battey Sannata was a sparkling film in every context. Right from the beginning of the film, you will be completely engrossed into the beautiful tale of mother and her struggle to keep her dreams alive. Blended with sarcasm and light moments, the film was a powerful drama which will help you sail it through 2 hours without getting bored. Told in a subtle manner, it was the simplicity of narration which was the highlight of the film and you will cherish each and every frame. There were no glossy sets, colorful costumes over-the-tone melodrama yet the film was entertaining and will keep you glued throughout. The screenplay was pivotal which defined each and every characters to the core. Swara Bhaskar stole the thunder with her electrifying performance. Surprisingly, this was her first film as a lead and she has displayed matured acting. Pankaj Tripathi was simply superb as the Hindi teacher will bring down the house with his comic act.
Unfortunately, Nil Battey Sannata collected a mere Rs 5.62 crore against a budget of Rs 7.50 crore at the ticket window.
