There were two significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor starrer Delhi 6 and Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Yami Gautam starrer Badlapur were released. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
After giving blockbuster like Rang De Basanti, expectations sky-rocketed from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra with Delhi 6. Delhi-6 had the perfect elements to make it a blockbuster – star cast comprising of Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Om Puri, Aditi Rao Hydari, Waheeda Rehman, Atul Kulkarni, Divya Dutta and Deepak Dobriyal, ground-breaking songs like “Masakali”, “Delhi-6”, “Sasural Genda Phool” by the legend A.R.Rahman with beautiful lyrics written by Prasoon Joshi. The story was captivating but it was the screenplay which did not do justice to the film. Plus the length of the film went against it and Delhi-6 turned out to be a “Flop” at the box office, collecting Rs 30.43 crore against a budget of Rs 40 crore.
Sriram Raghavan, the talent behind revenge saga Ek Haseena Thi and the spellbinding Johnny Gaddar comes back with a bang. With no time wasting, Raghavan immediately introduces you to the plot right from the beginning using flashbacks in between the scenes in Badlapur. The 1st half moves in at a snail pace but picks up the in the later half. The act of revenge inflicted on each person involved in the Misha’s (Yami Gautam) murder is bloody and violent. The main conversation between Varun Dhawan and Nawazzudin Siddiqui is very good. The revenge drama is spiced up with little humor with foot-tapping music by Sachin-Jigar.
Varun Dhawan sheds his chocolate-look-lover-boy image and shows his dark side. with brilliant act. Watch for him when he meets Nawazzuddin for the first time in the hospital. Nawazuddin Siddique is brilliant as usual playing the negative role after KICK. Baddlapur, also starring Yami Gautam, Radhika Apte, Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutta and Huma Qureshi, turned out to be a surprise “HIT” of the year, collecting Rs 50.09 crore against a budget of Rs 20 crore.
