There were three significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Shaandaar, Sushmita Sen starrer Vaastu Shastra and Vivek Oberoi starrer Rakth Charitra. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Shaandaar had everything going in its favor – National Award winning director, Vikas Bahl, of Queen fame, perfect jodi of Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, fantastic music by Amit Trivedi, huge production value and big banners like Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap backing it up. What it lacked was screenplay which made the film a mockery. The audience were simply not interested for this big budgeted fiasco which turned out to be a disaster at the box office, collecting Rs 40 crore (approx) against a budget of Rs 70 crore.
Vaastu Shastra (2004)
Directed by Sourabh Usha Narang , Vaastu Shastra had a good storyline and few spooky moments. However, these moments were not enough to keep the audience interested for long time and the horror drama turned out to be an average fare at the box office, minting Rs 6.5 crore against a budget of Rs 5 crore.
Rakht Charitra (2010)
Based on true story of Paritala Ravindra, Rakht Charitra was a hard hitting gangster drama. Nice direction by Ram Gopal Varma, apt screenplay and powerful performances made it a good watch. Unfortunately, the movie tanked at the Bollywood box office but did well in other languages, collecting Rs 8 crore against a budget of Rs 19 crore.
